Dispersive currents explain patterns of population connectivity in an ecologically and economically important fish

چکیده
How to identify the drivers of population connectivity remains a fundamental question in ecology and evolution. Answering this can be challenging aquatic environments where dynamic lake ocean currents coupled with high levels dispersal gene flow decrease utility modern genetic tools. To address challenge, we used RAD-Seq genotype 959 yellow perch (Perca flavescens), species an ~40-day pelagic larval duration (PLD), collected from 20 sites circumscribing Lake Michigan. We also developed novel, integrative approach that couples detailed biophysical models eco-genetic agent-based generate “predictive” values differentiation. By comparing predictive empirical differentiation, estimated relative contributions for known (e.g., currents, behavior, PLD). For main basin populations (i.e., largest contiguous portion lake), found led low overall differentiation among (FST = 0.003). far best predictors were matrices derived periods time when there strong highly dispersive currents. Thus, these are driving patterns basin. northern southern slightly divergent one another, while those Green Bay 0.11). integrating genome-wide data, illustrate identified systems.

Variation in economically and ecologically important traits in onion plant organs during reproductive development
The spatial distribution of organosulphur compounds throughout the onion ( Allium cepa L.) plant body during reproduction is of ecological and horticultural interest. These secondary metabolites are associated with both pest resistance and many of the vegetable’s culinary and medicinal properties, including the ability to inhibit platelet aggregation. Inhibition of platelet aggregation can be o...
متن کاملBrucellosis: An Economically Important Infection
Brucellosis is one of the world’s major zoonosis, caused by bacteria of the genus Brucella. The world’s most widespread zoonosis affects cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, and other animals, leading to abortion, infertility, and low milk yields. Humans acquire brucellosis from direct contact with livestock or from drinking unpasteurized milk. Brucella spp. are considered as the most common laboratory-...

in the area of automotive engineering there is a tendency to more electrification of power train. in this work control of an induction machine for the application of electric vehicle is investigated. through the changing operating point of the machine, adapting the rotor magnetization current seems to be useful to increase the machines efficiency. in the literature there are many approaches wh...

We used the partially sequenced genomes of the turkey and chicken to find a large number of microsatellite markers. We then characterized 10 polymorphic microsatellite markers developed by cross-species amplification from economically and ecologically important birds to various European sub-species of the grey partridge. Even though we used cross-species amplification, a high degree of polymorp...
متن کاملDo national advisories serve local consumers: an assessment of mercury in economically important North Carolina fish.
Consumption of marine fish provides both benefits (lean protein, omega-3 fatty acids and essential nutrients) and risks (main source of mercury (Hg) exposure for humans). Mercury is a potent neurotoxin and the source of more fish advisories nationwide than any other toxicant. Despite the widespread nature of Hg, it is unknown whether local Hg contamination reflects national and regional levels ...
